Tufts' father Floyd took a job with the Canadian government in the Department of Manpower and Immigration, as it was then known. This job took Terry to Denver, Colorado, U.S.A, Ottawa, Ontario, and Rome, Italy. After completing grade 12 at Notre Dame International in Rome, he started life away from his parents at 16 years of age, returning to Canada to complete his high school.[1] After graduating in 1974 from Albert College in Belleville, a private boarding school, Tufts moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick to begin working as a full time musician. He later settled in the Ottawa Valley in Ontario, working as a session musician and sideman for a variety of artists, as well as pursuing his own musical career as a singer-songwriter and guitarist.
Tufts has recorded seven albums, one of which remains unreleased. His last three albums are on Borealis Records.
